OAD in Peace
At the OAD we strongly believe that development cannot take place in a country torn by war or civil unrest. Agricultural production normally bears the brunt of conflict arising from elections in many countries. Conflict does not only undermine agricultural productivity and investment but can also disrupt the supply and distribution of inputs and outputs, create price shocks and cause massive displacement of labour, coupled with the fact that sports, particularly football, has the inclination to bring people together and presents a unique platform for advocacy for peace and development.
It is in line with our peace campaign that the OAD organised the OAD PEACE CUP. The football matches was between popular Ghanaian actors and celebrities, the Workers Union of Ghana, The Farmers and Fishermen Association of Ghana, Market women, Teachers among others, at the Accra Sports Stadium. The tournament was organised to promote and advocate peace as the only sure way by which progress can be attained on the continent of Africa. The tournament was eventually won by The Farmers and Fishermen Association which falls in line with the objective of OAD which is to promote development of Africa through peace and agriculture.
This was preceeded by a Peace walk. The OAD peace walk featured people from different religious backgrounds, Christians, Muslims among others. The event was organised under the patronage of the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Dr. Osman Nuhu Sharubutu who gave a peace message that sunk well into the hearts of all present. The project succeeded in bringing all major stakeholders together to ensure that Ghana continued to live in peace after the 2012 general elections.
