Mr Seth Tekpeh, Minister of Finance had underscored the need for the banking system to win greater customer trust, efficient regulation and supervision in order to ensure stability in the financial sector. To this end, he said, government would implement policies that would enable financial service providers come out with an efficient credit delivery system. The Minister made the call in a speech read for him by his Deputy, Mr Kweku Richett-Hagan, who is also the Member of Parliament for Cape Coast at the official launch of a new logo (adb) by the Agriculture Development Bank in Accra on Tuesday.
Mr Tekpeh charged the banking sector to use its leadership role to help deepen and diversify the financial market. “Ghana’s medium-term objective and strategic direction is to expand opportunities for all and re-enforce the foundation for socio-economic transformation in partnership with the private sector.” Mr Tekpeh said it was for this reason that the strategy of agricultural modernization became pivotal and government was therefore determined to harness all resources towards the achievements of this objective. The Finance Minister pointed out that evidence all over the world indicated that a vibrant financial sector was critical to unleash the economic potentials of an economy and ensured accelerated, shared–inclusive and sustainable growth and development. He commended the adb for winning three prestigious awards at the 2012 Banking Awards in the category of medium-term loan financing, corporate social responsibility and agricultural financing.
Mr Tekpeh was optimistic that the launch of the new logo of the bank and for that matter the re-branding would enable adb attract new customers and widen its footprint in the banking industry. Nana Soglo Alloh IV, Chairman of the Board of Directors of adb said currently the bank was in the initial stages of its follow up strategic plan for the 2014-2016 periods which was designed to ensure sustainable growth and profitability and build on the key success achieved in the previous strategic plans. Nana Alloh assured employees of the bank that management and the board were committed to create an environment that would empower them to be customer-centric, optimize the value of the bank’s businesses and became the best they could be through continuous carrier and development opportunities.
Mr Stephen Kpordzih, Managing Director of adb explained that the new logo reflected a deep will within adb to keep up with modernity and evolution. Mr Kpordzih said adb had outgrown its old identity, hence the need to refresh its identity, improve its look and seal and present its modern face to the country and the world at large. Among dignitaries at the launch were Mr Fiifi Kwetey, Minister of State, Dr Ahmed Yakubu Alhassan, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Mr Kabral Blay Amihere, Chairman of the National Media Commission.
